LJL 2022 Spring Split 108 matches under the new format. Total viewing time for the season grows to 2.3 times that of last year

New initiatives, including the introduction of a new schedule format that includes weekday events and a spectator watch party, set a season record for viewership.

PlayBrain, together with Riot Games, is pleased to announce that the "LJL 2022 Spring Split" of the League of Legends Japan League (LJL), a professional e-sports league in Japan for the PC online game League of Legends, held the "LJL 2022 Spring Split" which introduced a new format with 108 matches. The cumulative season viewing time has increased to 2.3 times of last year's total.

PlayBrain has formed a long-term partnership with Riot Games since January 2019 to manage the League of Legends Japan League (LJL) and broadcast international tournaments in Japanese.

The LJL introduced a significantly updated schedule format for the 2022 Spring Season in order to further develop the competitiveness of the LJL professional teams and improve the spectator experience for fans. In addition to the weekend schedule, the LJL introduced weekday matches on Wednesdays and Fridays, doubling the number of game days from last year to 27.

As a result, more people than ever before were able to experience the appeal of the League of Legends Japan League (LJL) and League of Legends esports throughout the season.

LJL 2022 Spring Split Main Achievements

  • Regular broadcast three days a week on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays for a total of 27 days

  • A total of 108 live games broadcasted for the season

  • 281,913,751 total minutes watched for the season (+130% over the previous year)

  • Highest number of unique viewers per day: 340,986 (+36%)

LJL 2022 Spring Split Finals were held on Sunday, April 10, DetonatioN FocusMe and Sengoku Gaming battled it out until the fifth and final game, setting a new league record for the largest number of simultaneous connections with 75,159 which is a new record for the league. The LJL 2022 Spring Split Finals Watch Party was also held on the same day, and together with the official LJL streaming, the maximum number of viewers exceeded 110,000 people.

This summer the LJL 2022 Summer Split, LJL Academy League, and LJL Scouting Grounds are scheduled to be held. We will continue to operate the league so that even more fans can enjoy watching.

The League of Legends Japan League (LJL) is the official Japanese professional league for the PC online game "League of Legends. The winning team of each split will represent Japan at the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) and the World Championship (WCS).
