PlayBrain Inc, together with Riot Games, Inc., the maker of online PC game, League of Legends, announced the League of Legends Japan League 2022 Spring Split will start on the 11th February, 2022.
Since January 2019, PlayBrain has formed a long term partnership with Riot Games to operate the League of Legends Japan League (LJL) and broadcast League of Legends international events in Japanese.
For the start of the 2022 Spring Split season, the LJL will introduce a new schedule format designed to increase the excitement and entertainment for fans.
The new format includes 84 regular season games and more than 100 games including playoffs per season.
The new schedule was introduced in order to increase participation opportunities for professional players in Japan, and increase competitiveness. Instead of the previous double round robin format, teams will now compete in a triple round robin, playing each other team 3 times. Increasing the regular season to 84 games (28 more than the previous season), will allow teams more opportunity to develop strategies, train younger players and develop their teamwork. Including the playoffs, the total games per season will exceed 100.
Wednesday, Friday, Sunday, 3 days per week schedule
With an expansion to 3 days per week, and 4 games per day, the Spring Split will be held over 27 days, approximately double the days held in 2021, allowing more fans to enjoy LJL content. The details of the schedule will be announced soon.
Continuing from 2021, the league will be held as an online competition with teams playing from their gaming houses. Top priority has been given to the health and safety of players and fans in response to the continued spread of the corona virus.
